The Finnish Internet exchange point will be located in Telia Helsinki Data Center in the future - Ficix ry is building a new hub in Pitäjänmäki, Helsinki

Finland's most important Internet exchange point will also be located in the Telia Helsinki Data Center. FICIX, Finnish Communication and Internet Exchange association, is Finland's largest and one of Europe's oldest interconnection points. All major Finnish networks are connected to FICIX nodes.

 

“The expansion of the FICIX1 to be available in Telia's data center will enable Ficix's services to be offered to a larger number of customers. Ficix will continue to be the most significant provider of Finnish interconnection services and seek growth through cooperation with Telia. Ficix aims to provide service in all major data centers. It has been easy to work with Telia and we are convinced by Telia's ability to provide data center service”, says Antti Siivonen, Chairman at Ficix ry.  

 

The new internet exchange point connects Finnish and international operators and communities on the shortest possible route. The agreement also includes connections between FICIX1 nodes.

 

“Finland's most significant and newest extension to the FICIX1 internet exchange point will be located in the Telia Helsinki Data Center. This enables companies and public administrations a very cost-effective and safe way to connect directly to the core of the Finnish Internet”, says Kaisa Pajari, Head of Networking and Communications Services at Telia Finland.

 

Telia Helsinki Data Center is one of the largest open data centers in the Nordic countries. Opened in June 2018, the data center has been granted, e.g. the Gold-level LEED environmental certificate. The Gold-level LEED classification was contributed to by the environmental impacts of the building as a whole, especially energy efficiency and water conservation. For example, rainwater is collected and used in the data center for rinsing. The data center uses carbon-neutral electricity: Hydropower and wind power.

 

Telia Helsinki Data Center is compliant with Tier III security standards. The data center has been granted the ISO22301 certification for its business continuity practices as the first data center in Finland.

 

FICIX, Finnish Communication and Internet Exchange association was founded in 1993, providing a neutral and reliable IP peering facilities for its members. Ficix is a non-profit association. FICIX operates internet exchange points in Helsinki, Espoo and Oulu.
